The filming of Black Tuesday (The Affair)
In 1995, dozens of local residents took part as ‘extras’ in the making of a film about American G.I.s stationed in 1940s wartime England.
The streets of Nayland and Stoke were transformed , along with clothes and hairstyles, awakening memories for those who had experienced the war years at first hand. The village was full of old cars and military vehicles, sandbags, old advertising signs and taped over windows.
The sudden invasion by young American servicemen from USAAF Mildenhall cast as American troops seemed to have a similar effect on local girls as the arrival of their grandfathers had done fifty years previously when American airmen visited Nayland in their off duty time. The cast included Adrian Lester, Ciaran Hinds and Kerry Fox. |
